Same old, same old work.

Becky mowed the lawn today.

Look how sad my shamrock or butterfly plant looks.

The green one hasn't been doing well, so I put some maroon ones in with them.

My maroon one looks a little down in mouth too.

It will be better once it adjusts to loosing part of its plants.

Grandpa's birthday. He says it is his 68th.

Becky fixed her Dad a nice breakfast this morning for his birthday

We had strawberries from the garden and whipped cream.

This is what the trailer looks like before it is loaded.

Dad has had it in the garage for a few days.

This some of the stuff waiting to go in the trailer for the Schiess Reunion.

We are looking forward to seeing extendwed famil members this weekend.

Sunday, July 24th

Just had to walk around the yard and look at all the pretty flowers.

Everyone loves my pink rose bush in the front of the house.

It really brightens up the place.

The swing is in much better shape now.

Here is a picture of them tring hard to get the old pole out of the ground.

Look at Becky's post.  It was a hard job.

They did have a cheering section part of the time.

We were sorry that Katrina, Kaitlyn and Ashlyn were sick.

Here they were filling in the dirt.  They were all doing their job.

How would you kids have liked to swing on this.

It  was a little one sided.

We won't worry about you swinging on it now though.

They did a lot of work.

Friday July 22-celebrating Cade's Birthday a day early.

Today Grandpa and I went over to celebrate Cade's Birthday a day early

as we had a big day ahead on Saturday.

Note the red caps they got at the Melaluca party.

All three of them seemed happy to see us.

Camouflage!

Just a plain old chokecherry tree in the back of our garden, right?

Becky pointed out something to me.

I have two holly hocks back there in front of the tree.

They are in full bloom.  Can't you see them?

They are a pretty dark maroon and they blend in with the maroon leaves of the tree.

I hadn't noticed they were blooming until Becky pointed it out.

I have a pink one blooming a short ways away.

Dad still thinks they are weeds and when he roto-tills,

he plows any little ones under that he can see.

Rhubarb dessert.

I made a rhubarb cobbler for us for lunch.

I gave the rest of the rhubarb to Uncle Pete.

Uncle Peter, Kathy (his daughter) and her daughter came to see us today,

We give them what produce we don't use.

We had ice cream on it of course so it was pretty good I thought.

We have a stranger in our peas.

Can you see the bunny in our peas?

I saw him three times, but he was to fast for me to get his picture.

Remember the story of Peter rabbit in Mr. McGregors garden?

Maybe this is one of the reasons why our peas look so sad this year.

Lots of produce today!

Fresh limes anyone?

We have lots of them.

We got about 5 bags of cherries.  Yum, Yum!

We have red and green grapes and lettuce.

We are saving a lot of tomatoes to make fresh salsa to take to Reunion.

Sunday July 17

The new pictures that Kendra too on the 4th of July weekend.

It is great to see all of your smiling faces.

We love our family.

At the cabin on July 16

I took this picture of the cabin this morning.

A hummingbird was trying to get nectar out of the red reflecting lights on the pickup hood.

Becky took a long ride up the canyon this morning.

While she was gone, we were cold so Dad turned on the heat and we wrapped

up in blankets.  Becky thought we we crazy of course.

I'm sure she will tell you about her long ride and what she saw.

Dad watched one of this Sackett movies the Ottesons gave to him.

Dad tore the old picnic table apart which was above shed.

This is a very interesting plant.

SELF-HEAL - prunella vulgaris

The indians used it for a lot of things.

Chopped leaves, boiled in water, make tea used as gargle to heal sore throats and

mouth sores.  It was also taken to relieve fevers, upset stomachs and diarrhea.

Crushed plants were used as poultices to heal ulcers, wounds, bruises, sores and insect

bites.  It can lower blood pressure. 

Sounds like a cure all, therefore the name SELF-HEAL.

These plants are directly behind the cabin.

Friday, July 15 At the cabin again

After we got up to the cabin, Becky took me on a 4 wheeler ride

up the canyon.  I got a lot of pictures of the wild flowers.

They are so pretty right now and everything looks so green and nice.

The thimble berry bushes ( wild raspberry) are full bloom and there

are a lot of them.  The kids will enjoy picking and eating them.

The big wild roses are in bloom and I picked a boquet and they

smeel sooooooooooo good.  Just ask Becky.

The Colorado combine is so pretty and they are nearly done blooming

around the cabin.  They are so delicate.

Becky printed up the new pictures of the whole family from the weekend

at the cabin.  She took some really nice pictures.

I will let them sit on the couch untill we get back on Saturday night.

This morning I went visiting teaching and Dad and Becky mowed the lawn

and weeded in the garden.  I picked the strawberries when I got home.

We have lots and lots of mashed straberries in the freezer to make

jam this winter.  They have been doing very well this year.

In the morning we are all working in the Temple and

then we are all going to the cabin and staying overnight.

We will come back on Saturday night.

It should be cooler there.

As far as we can reach.

We finished thinning the apples and plums as far as we can reach.

This is the pile of old lilacs that we cut off from the bushes. as far as we could reach.

Becky and I cut them off today and Dad helped haul them to the pile in back.

Dad wouldn't let me get up on a ladder so the tall ones will have to go.

This bush looks nice that Becky did in back yard.

Good-bye old Quest!

Today we made another trip to Ashton to take up our poor 4 wheeler

that is in a number of pieces.

We don't know what will happen now.

Rexburg Motor wanted over $4000 to fix plus the $370

we had allready paid.

We have had lots of fun rides on this ride.

Trip to Ashton to see the 4 wheelers that Joseph Corbett sells.

It was a beautiful day to go to Ashton.

I wish I could have got a better picture of the Tetons.

On our way back we had to stop and get a root beer.

You kids will remember this place as we used to stop there on our way home

after you kids helped fill the outfits with wood.

Joseph Corbetts shop is right next to this place.

He told us Aunt Rilla was getting a new Honda Civic.

Her car gave up on her.

July 10- Kendra's birthday. Happy Birthday

Saturday July 9

They finished poring Arnells driveway and sidewalk today.

Dad and Brother Gage are wishful, but not this year for us.

Salsa anyone?

Today we decided to make salsa.  Becky chopped up the tomotoes,

the jalapeno, and garlic and I chopped the onions.

We ended up with five bottles of fresh salsa.

It tastes pretty good.

I had so many tomatoes and onions from the store that I thought

it was wise to use them up.

Thanks Becky for all of your work.

Block Party

Tonight we went to the block party at Kevin Galbraiths.

Brother and Sister Black by Becky and Sister Gage on her other side.

Martha Arnell on end and Bruce was next to where I was sitting.

Keven, Allan Briggs and Norman Gage were having a serious discussion.

I didn't even know some of the people there.

It is good to have Arnells, Gages and Blacks home now.

Library day and errand day,

And the results of all those berries.

This morning Becky made 3 batches of jam.

It looks so good.

I had to go to town and go to a lot of places.  This is not my favorite thing

to do.  A supershopper I am not, Koria.

Tuesday July 5th- Lots of work to catch up with.

Now the work begins.  Dad mowed the lawn and watered part of garden.

I picked the strawberries.  When I left on Friday I only saw 3 ripe berries.

So I was rather surprised when I kept picking and picking.

I got 2 gallon berries and that is the best I've had in years.  It took

me a while to take care of them.

Friday we had one bud.  Look at it now.

The pink bush in front of house is covered with blooms also.

I watered all of my flowers.

This peonie is rather beautiful I think.  This pink color is so delicate.

Monday- The 4th of July

A lot of us got to see the view from up above the cabin.

Jared took a bunch up earlier.

Then Derek, Lance and his boys, and Rod and his boys went up

and I followed them up there.

Cade even rode back with his old Grandma.  Brave boy!

This is the view of the road down below the cabin.

I climbed up this hill from the other side and took a picture in April 1961 to

take with me on my mission to Scotland.

It wasn't near as pretty and green in April, but it was of my home.
