Wash day after a Reunion

Today we had a big wash after the reunion. Lots of towels from the cabin and you couldn't even tell the colar of my shoes. They are blue and I imagine they are a brighter blue now as they are still on the line and we had a big storm come through suddenly and I didn't get them in. Thanks for the shoes Kendra, I wear them a lot.
A walk in the air. How fun to leave earth behind. Come on blue shoes, keep on walkin.

This is the Schiess Brand. It is the "lazy S hanging 6" brand which is registered in the State of Idaho. At the time my Dad, Edwin Schiess, chose this brand they gave him a choice of 6 brands. He chose this because at the time they had 6 children. Then number 7, Tim, came along. My kids used to really enjoy branding cattle with Dad and my family across the river in Teton Valley located in Chapin.
The theme of the reunion was "The Survivor" and I received this block of wood. All of my brothers and sisters received different "survivors" blocks. Uncle Lynn had a good reunion. Last year Uncle Lyle wanted to give us some things that belonged to my Dad but Bonnie and Rilla were not there so he gave them to us this year. I will have to show all of you the cross-cut saw I picked and another tool used to cut into a stack of hay. They are old and rusty and we need to polish them up a bit and put them up at the cabin. Wish you all could have been here.

The Schiess Brothers and Sisters

We got a picture of all of us on Friday the 6th. It was harder than it looked. Everytime Lynn was there, Lyle dissappeared and then Lynn dissappeared when Lyle was there. The kids were having fun picking huckleberries at the cabin on Saturday the 7th. We didn't find too many but they liked it anyway.
Rod and Derek were cutting the boards and Lance was putting them up with their help and Dad's supervision. They made fast work of putting the tongue and groove up on our master bedroom -bathroom ceiling. Then Lance and Derek continued to our home in Sugar and put the rest of the boards up in Dad's room behind the garage. While they were doing this, Katrina, Becky, Kaitlyn, Nicole, and Kedryn helped me pick raspberries. We got almost 4 gallons. Kedryn stuck right to the end and he filled his bucket and more and it wasn't a tiny bucket. Way to go Kedryn! I think Dorrin just ate them. They were good.

Friday night big meal with Aunt Bonnie's family

We appreciate all the hard work from Dad, Lance and Derek. Becky and I were flouring the chicken and Bonnie was getting the corm ready to grill. Thanks to our children for their salads. The tossed salad Shanell made was excellent and I had to go back for seconds. Fresh peas in it !The fruit salad we made from Lance's cantaloupe, and grapes and from Derek's watermelon was great. Becky made her favorite peach and whipped cream jello salad and I made a hugh potatoe salad. Bonnie's family brought about six more salads and they were all great. It started to rain before they got the cooking done and the workers got a lot wet. It was cold and we debated whether they would like the ice cream but gave it to them anyway. The large Huckleberry ice cream (3 gallons) went first, but the one gallon vanilla went also. Thanks family. It was a great meal!
Thanks Bonnie and Glen and family. Many hands make the work easier. It took a good two hours but the results were worth it.
Grilled corn on the cob anyone? Wish I could have had some. We missed you family members who couldn't make it. Hope you Welch's had a good trip to Oregon and hope Layne recovers well from the operation on her eyes. We love you all.

Friday 6, 2010 at Schiess reunion

Dad and Lance visiting with Uncle Wayne. Dorrin only along for the ride. He didn't talk much.
This year was the "Survivor" theme and Lynn hid three "idols". Becky led this group of Kaitlyn. and two girls of Evonne's. Becky actually located it but took the girls over and had them look around for it. One of Evone's girls found it (with Becky's help). Then Becky had them be real sneaky and hide it under her jacket and come up to the camp from the straight gate and show Uncle Lynn. They were excited. I was fun for he kids to search for them.

Schiess Reunion - August 5, 2010 Henderson Canyon

This should look familiar to everyone. This was the evening of Thursday. We had got over there at around 1:30 and Becky and I got in a lot of "rook" playing. Becky even more than me. It was fun to visit with those that were there. This night there were not a lot of people there as it had been planned for the weekend before and was changed. We had a beautiful day and the clouds rolled in the evening and we had a little rain. It was nice to have it in Henderson as we could go to Patterson and spend the nights. Nice!! Lynn was in charge this year and we had a nice supper of baked spuds, ham, string beans (Beckys favorite- Ha Ha) and salad. Good food.

Books! Books! Books!

Today was library day. The last 5 books I checked out were not good at all so hopefully todays will be better. My good friedn brought over a book for me to read, upper left, and I will read it althought I don't enjoy the ones like this. It is too bad that so many of the "clean" writers especially the LDS ones, have to write about beautifull, handsome and rich people. You might as well tell a fairy tale like, Once upon a Time and Happily ever after. Life is seldom like that and I guess if it were it would be the "B" word, boring. I like the action packed ones, but like some of the language and content of them. Ach well, maybe today I will have a good one. One is written by an LDS man and it is fiction with a lot of fact about his experiences as a spy in Russia. It is supposed to be made into a movie soon. I love it that he is not having any famous handsome man play the part but a normal down to earth ordinary person. I spent a half hour in the library trying to find a book with a good author that I like that I haven't read. Better to read a good one over than a yucky one. Wish me luck. Reading is my favorite pastime. So go and get a good book from the library!
